Our Artist Collaboration Series: Laura May
This weekend, Saturday March 19, 2022, we are releasing our newest Artist Collaboration Collection, featuring the work of illustrator Laura May. At Kinder, we are passionate about supporting artists and are excited to share this new collection with our community.
Laura May is a printed textile and surface pattern designer based in Hertfordshire, UK. She has worked for several UK suppliers across a variety of products including greetings, home textiles and fashion accessories. She likes to start her designs with hand drawings and then finalize the repeat layouts and color ways in Adobe Illustrator.
This colorful Latin inspired collection features 3 exclusive prints: Día de los Muertos, Fiesta and Papel Picado.
Día de los Muertos:
Celebrated on November 1, Día de los Muertos honors the dead with festivals and lively celebrations, a typically Latin American custom that combines indigenous Aztec ritual with Catholicism.
"Assured that the dead would be insulted by mourning or sadness, Día de los Muertos celebrates the lives of the deceased with food, drink, parties, and activities the dead enjoyed in life. Día de los Muertos recognizes death as a natural part of the human experience, a continuum with birth, childhood, and growing up to become a contributing member of the community."
These colorful paper flags chiseled with a variety of patterns are used to decorate buildings, Day of the Dead altars and streets during secular and religious celebrations in Mexico. The pattern used depends on the celebration and can be related to the Day of the Dead, Christmas, Independence Day, a Patron Saint, or a private party.
Laura's collection will be available on diapers, pods, change mats, and a large 4.5 foot square play mat.
