One of the most important parts of choosing a cloth diapering system, is choosing the best cloth diaper insert. There are so many different styles and textiles to choose from, it can be hard to sift through all the noise and decide what will work best for your families unique needs. We're here to help!
Here we have broken down the most common cloth diaper absorbency styles and reasons why you might choose one over the other. What is the best cloth diaper insert for newborns and how to do you know when it's time to add more inserts? Let's find out now.
One of the most common cloth diaper absorbency textiles available today is Bamboo or Bamboo Terry. These are often the best cloth diaper inserts for younger babies.
Bamboo Terry has a high pill texture and feel like bath towels. They're very flexible, lightweight and often very affordable. This makes them quite accessible for most families.
Be wary that some cloth diaper inserts that are marketed as Bamboo may contain microfiber filler layers. These filler layers help keep costs low, but make the products more susceptible to compression leaks as baby grows. Be sure to read the product description, especially on Amazon, when shopping for Bamboo Inserts. Avoid products with 100% Polyester interior layers.
At Kinder, we carry two different styles of Bamboo Terry Inserts, both styles that we offer are four layers and do not contain any microfiber layers. You will notice that our bamboo terry is 83% Bamboo and 17% Polyester. This polyester content is necessary to hold the bamboo fibers together.
The Kinder Lightweight Bamboo Terry Insert is made of four layers of Bamboo Terry. This material is popular due to its lightweight and flexible nature. The lightweight bamboo insert is ideal for situations where you need less bulk but still want the benefits of bamboo. It's great for daytime use, especially in warmer weather.

Our yellow 4-layer bamboo insert is. the best cloth diaper insert for babies of all ages. Bamboo terry is known for its quick absorption and reduced bulk compared to some other options on the market today.
Bamboo is highly absorbent and less prone to compression leaks than its low cost polyester competitor, Microfiber. This makes it an excellent choice for daily use, especially for babies who are moderate wetters. This is our most popular everyday insert style at Kinder.

Alternatively, for newborns we often recommend using reusable bamboo terry baby wipes rather than one size bamboo terry cloth diaper inserts. The best cloth diaper insert for newborn use tend to be lightweight and shorter in overall length. This makes our 8 and 10 inch bamboo terry baby wipes a great option for the tiniest babies.
Note that we do not currently offer a specific newborn sized insert at Kinder. We believe in selling you products that will work harder for you longer, and a bamboo terry wipe will support your cloth diaper stash longer than a tiny newborn insert.

Another popular cloth diaper absorbency textile you may find is Hemp blended with Cotton. These inserts have a low pill texture and are typically smooth to touch. They're often more rigid than a terry insert, especially when wet and tend to be a bit more expensive.
Hemp Cotton inserts are recommended for babies over 6 months of age, just because they aren't as flexible. At Kinder, we carry a few different styles of Hemp and Cotton blended inserts.
The Kinder Hemp Cotton insert combines the benefits of hemp and cotton into one heavy duty cloth diaper insert. Hemp textiles are known for their exceptional absorbency and ability to hold a lot of liquid without bulk. The cotton helps with quick absorption and is a popular choice for families looking to avoid polyester textiles in their cloth diaper inserts.
